Featured Puck -San Antonio Dragons

Today’s featured puck comes from the San Antonio Dragons. The Dragons were a minor league professional ice hockey team in the International Hockey League (IHL) for two seasons from 1996-98. Based in San Antonio, Texas, the Dragons played out of the Freeman Coliseum and occasionally the Alamodome. The franchise was formerly known as the Peoria Rivermen.

The IHL was a minor professional league in the United States and Canada from 1945 to 2001. The IHL served as the National Hockey League’s (NHL) alternate farm system to the American Hockey League (AHL). After 56 years of operation, financial instability led to the leagues demise. Six of the surviving seven teams merged into the AHL in 2001. (Wikipedia)
