Featured Puck – Quad City Mallards
Today’s featured puck comes from the Quad City Mallards and appears to be from one of their earliest seasons. The Mallards were a staple in the Quad Cities’ sports scene for over two decades. The team left a lasting mark on both the local sports culture and the hearts of its fans. The Quad City Mallards were founded in 1995, with their inaugural season taking place in the International Hockey League (IHL). The team quickly became a local favorite, drawing large crowds to the iWireless Center (formerly the Moline Civic Center) in Moline, Illinois. The Mallards were named after the northern pintail duck – common in the area – giving the team a unique and regional identity. Over the years the Mallards played in several leagues including the Central Hockey League (CHL) and the ECHL.
The team had some playoff success, with multiple playoff appearances but were never able to capture a championship title. After a successful run in the ECHL, the Mallards ceased operations after the 2017-18 season.
